History of Thomas D. Reilley Sr. Council Knights of Columbus # 10668 Shortly after St. Francis By The Sea Catholic Church was dedicated, several men of the parish explored the possibility of forming a new Knights of Columbus council for the parish. Robert Bidwell was the first Grand Knight. The council was named after a prominent member of the parish that had died in the recent past.  

WHEN WE MEET 
Our meetings are on the first Mondays of the month and are held in St. Francis By The Sea Parish Center. First Mondays of the Month-Council Business Meetings at 7:00 PM. When First Degree Exemplification is held, meeting will start at 7:00 PM.  

WHO CAN BECOME A KNIGHT 
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practical Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who shall not be less than eighteen years of age on their last birthday. 

THE PATRIOTIC DEGREE 
Another degree open to members of the Knights of Columbus is that of the Fourth (or Patriotic) Forth-Degree groups called assemblies. Fourth Degree members must retain their membership as Third-Degree members in their local council to remain in good standing. Certain members of the Fourth Degree serve as honor guards and color corps at civic and religious functions, and activity which has brought worldwide recognition to the Knights of Columbus organization.

In 2024 Council 10668 awarded $8,000 in College Scholarships


There were four (4) awards for $2,000 each.

We awarded $8,000 in College Scholarships to four (4) outstanding High School Senior Graduates at our Council Meeting on Monday, June 3, 2024. Each $2,000 award is designated for College Freshmen. The award recipients were:


Grace Boyden – Clemson University

Emilie Fister – University of Kentucky

Maria Ibarra – Lander University

Jack Rohr – Clemson University


Funding for these awards is the result of donations from several very generous benefactors:

Veterans Day is Monday, November 11, 2024.

As part of our Patriot Calendar of events, the 4th Degree Assy 2280 and Council 10668 will be placing US Flags on the graves of US Veterans at the Six Oaks Cemetery in Sea Pines Plantation. We will be placing the US Flags on Wednesday, November 6th @ 9 AM. If you would like to participate in this event, please add your name to the attached sign-up sheet. 


Retrieval of the Flags is scheduled for Wednesday, November 20th @ 9 AM. This is the same day as the 4th Degree Luncheon at Tide Point, beginning at 11:30 AM and Lunch served at Noon.

B) Six Oaks Cemetery – Hilton Head Flag placement /retrieval. 1. Memorial Day –

May – Rick D’Arienzo - Captain. 2. July 4 th - Rich Regan – Captain. 3.Patriot’s

Day- September – Frank Grywalski – Captain. 4. Veterans Day- November - Bill

Crawford - Captain. 5. Wreath Rack placement/retrieval - December – Bill Taylor -

Captain and we donate to “Wreaths Across America”.


C) Flag for Retirement collection – St. Francis by the Sea one weekend as

designated for flag retirement ceremony by HHI Fire & Rescue as scheduled.


Optional Events for Sir Knights Participation:


A) Operation Patriot – Ridgeland, SC every Saturday “Warrior Coffee” starts at

9:00 AM in Ridgeland. TJ Plummer thomas@OPFOB.org .


B) National Alliance for Mental Illness NAMI – Bluffton, SC Michelle Casey –

Director – 843-301-1964 assist with various events held here on Hilton Head or

Bluffton as notified by NAMI.


C) Christmas visit to veteran at VA Hospital Charleston, SC – Bart Bubnell

coordinator.


D.) Continued involvement and contact with St. Francis Catholic School grades 6-8

on what we do for patriotism, possibly do a veterans day celebration. Also then

branch out to John Paul II; Hilton Head High ROTC and possibly Hilton Head

Middle School grades 6-8. Do the K of C 4 th degree patriotism PowerPoint slide

presentation and civic responsibilities.


NOTE: No cost entrance to Six Oaks Cemetery is by having a Hilton Head

Plantation sticker or by telling the guard that you are going to the cemetery.
